You may author and publish as many presentations as you like using the Slidevana templates. There are no limitations on your usage of presentations created with Slidevana provided that you do not resell, in whole or part, the templates or provide the templates for free to other users.

Why does Slidevana come in just two visual themes?

Steve Jobs was a masterful presenter. Take a close look at his keynotes, and you'll see that he stuck with a simple slide theme that provided a canvas for his message, rather than one of the many overdesigned themes that come with Keynote and PowerPoint. He also didn't bother to "brand" his slides with logos or corporate color schemes.

A simple design with strong use of fonts, contrast, and color will enable you to create slides that complement your message, rather than overpower it. You don't need a fancier theme to create a great presentation. What you need is great foundation for your content, and that is exactly what Slidevana provides.

For most presentations, we recommend Slidevana Dark. A dark background makes it easier to use color to draw the audience's attention to the most important part of a slide. For presentations that need to be both projected or printed or when brand guidelines dictate a light background, we recommend Slidevana Light.

Using Slidevana with PowerPoint

How do I install the Slidevana templates for PowerPoint?

Slidevana for PowerPoint contains several PowerPoint templates. In order to make the PowerPoint templates available in the My Templates section of PowerPoint, the templates need to be installed. The template files that you need to install depend on the system you are using.

On Windows

  1. Go to one of the following folders depending on your operating system.
Remember Make sure to replace UserName with you own username.

    • Windows 8 and Office 2013: C:\Users\UserName\Documents\Custom Office Templates
In Office 2013, You can choose to override this location by specifying a Personal Templates Folder. This can be done by going to File > Options > Save and manually entering a folder path. Office will create the Custom Office Templates folder the first time you save a template, and will set the Personal Templates path to this location.

    • Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\UserName\Application Data\Microsoft\Templates

How do I use Slidevana for PowerPoint to create presentations?

Due to the large number of slides included, Slidevana works differently than many other PowerPoint templates. Many templates have PowerPoint master slide (accessed from the "Layout" menu) for every single slide included in the bundle. By contrast, Slidevana's 150+ slides are based on a dozen or so PowerPoint slide masters. In order to author a presentation, you do the following:

  1. Create a new presentation by opening one of the .potx files listed below.
  2. Open up one of the .pptx files included with Slidevana (either Slidevana Dark Layouts.pptx or Slidevana Light Layouts.pptx). Each of these files contains all of the slide layouts included with Slidevana. You can drag or copy over the ones you like from the layouts file into your newly created presentation file.

Although this approach entails a little extra work (i.e., copying the slides over from the layouts file instead of selecting directly from the template), it has a couple of distinct advantages including:

  • Your final deck will be much smaller since it only contains a handful of master slides rather than all of the 150 slides.
  • It's much easier to customize. You can change about a dozen slides and have that formatting cascade to all of the slide layouts included in Slidevana.

Slidevana for PowerPoint comes with the following files:

  • Slidevana Dark for PowerPoint

    • Slidevana Dark (Mac Only).potx Use this template for PowerPoint presentations that will only be used on Mac. It uses fonts that are standard on the Mac, but not available on Windows. Presentations created with this template will be nearly identical to presentations created with Slidevana for Keynote.
    • Slidevana Dark (Windows Only).potx Use this tempalte for PowerPoint presentations that will only be used on Windows. It uses fonts that are standard on Windows, but not available on Mac. The fonts have been selected to closely resemble presentations created with Slidevana for Keynote.
    • Slidevana Dark (Universal).potx Use this template for PowerPoint presentations that need to be used on both Mac and Windows. It uses fonts that are available when Microsoft Office is installed on either Mac or Windows and should appear identically on either platform.
    • Slidevana Dark Layouts.pptx The template files contain only a handful of PowerPoint Slide Layouts upon which Slidevana is based. The full portfolio of Slidevana slides is available in this standard PowerPoint file. Presentations are authored by copying the files from here into your presentation.
  • Slidevana Dark for PowerPoint

    • Slidevana Light (Mac Only).potx As with Slidevana Dark, this PowerPoint template should be used for presenations that will only be used on a Mac.
    • Slidevana Light (Universal).potx As with Slidevana Dark, this PowerPoint template should be used for presentations that need to be used on both Mac and Windows. Note that there is no PowerPoint template for Windows only since it would use the same fonts as the universal template.
    • Slidevana Light Layouts.pptx As with Slidevana Dark, this standard PowerPoint file contains the full portfolio of Slidevana slides.

The PowerPoint template files (.potx) contains a small collection of layouts similar to what is found in most other PowerPoint templates. You can use the Layout function to access these layouts. The PowerPoint templates also include several blank or partially blank Layouts that can be used to build custom slide layouts. The standard PowerPoint files (.pptx) contain the entire collection of slides included with Slidevana. Take some time to browse all of the slides in these files to familiarize yourself with the types of slides that are available.

In order to create a new presentation using Slidevana, either select the desired Slidevana PowerPoint template from your My Templates section (by going to File > New on Windows File > New from Template... on Mac) or double-click the desired PowerPoint template file. A blank presentation will appear. From here, you can add slides using New Slide, or you can copy a slide from the either the Slidevana Dark Layouts.pptx or Slidevana Light Layouts.pptx file, depending on the selected color scheme. You can copy either using the standard Copy and Paste menu items, or simply by dragging one of the slides to your new presentation file.

Note The Slidevana Dark Layouts.pptx and Slidevana Light Layouts.pptx files use Universal fonts that are available on both Mac and Windows. If you've chosen a platform specific PowerPoint template, the fonts will automatically change to the platform-specific fonts whne you copy a slide from the Layouts file to your presentation.

Important You should not modify the files since you will need it for future presentations. For that reason, the files are locked and cannot be overwritten. If you'd like to make a custom version of the Slidevana, we suggest you copy the desired file and unlock the copied version rather than working on the original version. If you ever need to get an unaltered copy of Slidevana, simply go to Download Updates to download a copy of the latest version.

Slidevana uses the yinyang icon and black and white photos to designate placeholder images. After you've selected a slide layout which contains placeholder images, you can simply replace the placeholder by right clicking on the placeholder and selecting the Change Picture... item.
